Lewis Hoss, Ph.D.

My scholarly work focuses on the history of political philosophy, with a specialization in liberalism and early modern political thought. I am particularly interested in questions of psychology that arise throughout the history of political thought, and the tension between the professed ideals of liberal democracy and individual desires and emotions. More broadly, I am devoted to the study and teaching of the great books, and the application of literary insights to enduring political questions. â€‹

Professionally, I am the Professional Development Manager at the Midwest Political Science Association, where I oversee a number of programs and services related to career advancement and professional development across the political science discipline.

I am also an Adjunct Professor at Rivier University in Nashua, NH where I teach core courses on Western Civilization in the Department of History and Political Science.

A native Midwesterner, I hail originally from Rockford, IL and received my Ph.D. in political science from Northern Illinois University.
